So, last month I mentioned coming to an "important" decision.

It should be no secret that I've challenged the idea of picking a genre and sticking with it. I even went so far as to build a brand - GenreGamutBooks - based on this philosophy. "As an author, it has always been my intention to span the gamut of genres - be it Dystopian, Western, Fantasy, Thriller, etc. - available to an audience," I state on the Books page of this site.

Well, just as my decision to jump into self-publishing instead of waiting out the stormy path of traditional publishing was misguided so has been my stubborn disregard toward genres. Thus, to make my work more appealing (i.e., marketable) to agents and publishers, I've chosen a genre - speculative fiction, one that encompasses science-fiction, fantasy, supernatural, steam-punk, and so many others.

This choice should be no surprise. Two of my three novels fall under this guise, and I've professed many times my adoration of Ray Bradbury, Harlan Ellison, Issac Asimov, and Valerie J. Freireich, as well as works like Fahrenheit 451 and A Clockwork Orange. It's a no-brainer that I should choose this path upon which to continue my writing journey; locking onto this target will make it easier to promote myself to the book publishing industry and prospective readers.

This decision raises yet another challenge.

One that I will detail next time.

Thanks for reading.
